Sophomore Kristiyan Trukov of the Marquette University men's tennis team has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Gurnee, Illinois, native played a key role in a pair of weekend BIG EAST victories on the road, securing the team win in a 5-2 decision against Xavier (March 21) and a slim 4-3 matchup with Butler (4-3).

"Kristiyan obviously played a critical role in our success this weekend," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "He has worked hard to become a consistent member of our lineup and will be key to our team as the league tournament approaches."

Playing at the No. 4 position in both matches, Trukov held off Xavier's Michael Moe 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 before rallying for a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 win over Butler's Pulok Bhattacharya. He also teamed up with freshman Andre Romanello to post a doubles decision against Butler.

Trukov leads the team with 17 singles victories (17-12 overall) and is 9-7 in dual competition. He has also collected a total of 12 doubles wins for Marquette in 2014-15. He is the first MU player to be honored this season.
