Men’s Tennis Set To Open Road Swing in Omaha

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s tennis team will begin a four match road trip when they travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on the University of Missouri-Kansas City on April 1 at 2 p.m. Central time, followed by a matchup with BIG EAST foe, Creighton, on April 2 and 11 a.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles (11-4) have rattled off six straight victories, recording sweeps in three matches, and holding opponents to just one point in two others. Brett Meyers has led the way for MU in dual play, totaling an 8-2 record in singles play. Greg Anderson has also helped lead the charge, posting an 11-4 record in singles action during the dual slate.
In doubles play, Anderson has teamed up with Luke Smrek to tally five wins, which leads all MU doubles teams. Smrek has also teamed up with Alvaro Verdu, recording a perfect 2-0 record from the No. 1 position.
UMKC (8-6) will enter its matchup with Marquette having won two of its last three contests, including a 7-0 sweep of Seattle University. Airam Castellano led the charge for UMKC, winning his singles match, 6-1, 6-1, from the No. 1 position. Castellano has won two of his last three singles matches for the Kangaroos.
Creighton (7-8) also enters the matchup with some momentum, having won three straight, two of which 7-0 sweeps. Brooks Kendall is tied for the team lead with eight singles victories, which include a 6-3 record from the No. 4 slot. Kendall enters the match having won for straight. In doubles, Creighton’s duo of Aaron Chalstrom and Armando Gandini have won seven straight, en route to a 9-2 record.
After the weekend slate, Marquette will stay on the road to take on BIG EAST opponents, Xavier and Butler, on Apr. 8 and 9, respectively.
