MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men’s tennis team will open up a season-long, three-match homestand with a pair of contests against fellow-BIG EAST members this weekend. MU will play Creighton on Apr. 1 with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, and Xavier on Apr. 3, with first serve at 10 a.m. CT.

The Golden Eagles (8-9) will look to not only stay undefeated at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium, but to also snap a four-match skid, the longest since the 2012-13 campaign.

The duo of Daniel Fernandez and Alvaro Verdu will lead the charge in doubles play, having already teamed up to win seven matches during the dual season. The team of Greg Anderson and Kristiyan Trukov have also been successful during the dual slate, playing to a 6-4 record.

Creighton (6-5) will enter the match on Friday having won five of its last six contests, but the matchup for both teams will be the first against a conference foe this season. Xavier (7-5), however, will have already played three matches against BIG EAST opponents before taking on Marquette.

Marquette will have a sense of familiarity against both squads, but even more so with Xavier, as Nick Dykema’s brother, Jack, is a freshman for the Musketeers.

Following the matches, the Golden Eagles will have a week off before concluding their homestand on Apr. 16 against Butler.
