Golden Eagles Open Road Swing Against BIG EAST Competition

Milwaukee - The Marquette men's tennis team will travel to league counterparts Georgetown and Villanova in the opening matches of a four-match road swing prior to the BIG EAST Championships in Tampa, Fla.
The Golden Eagles will take on Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 3 at noon and continue on to play Villanova at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 in Villanova, Pa.
Marquette (13-6) has won four matches in a row, all by 7-0 scores. The Golden Eagles are led by juniors Niko Boulieris (14-4 dual), Dusan Medan (13-6) and Mark Rutherford (12-4), freshman Jonathan Schwerin (10-5) and senior Stephen Shao (11-5), who have all tallied double-digit singles wins in dual match action. In doubles play, head coach Steve Rodecap's squad is headed by the duo of Rutherford-Schwerin. The pair is 10-4 in dual play, and enters the weekend with a six-match win streak. Rutherford also boasts a six-match win streak in singles action.
Georgetown (3-17) is led by third-year head coach Gordie Ernst, and features five underclassmen on its roster along with four juniors and three seniors. Returning senior Adam Gross led the Hoyas in singles wins last season with 11. Marquette captured a win, 6-1, against Georgetown in Milwaukee last season with the lone Hoyas point tallied by Gross.
The Wildcats are 7-8 overall on the season. Marquette last faced off against the Wildcats at the BIG EAST Conference Championship last season in Tampa, Fla., where the Golden Eagles tallied a 4-0 win. A week earlier during the 2007-08 campaign, Marquette swept Villanova in Milwaukee, 7-0, on senior day.
