Marquette Hosts Pair Of Weekend Matches

The Marquette University men's tennis team returns to the Helfaer Tennis Stadium for a weekend doubleheader beginning Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. against Youngstown State and concluding on Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m. CT against Cleveland State.

Marquette (9-8) owns a three-match winning streak thanks to its last victories over BIG EAST counterparts, Xavier and Butler. Kristiyan Trukov leads Marquette with 17 singles wins, his most recent being the final point of the squads 4-3 victory over Butler. The sophomore boasts a 10-1 record on the home court.

Fellow sophomore, Nick Dykema, enters the competition on a four-match win streak in singles action. The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native's singles wins have all been from the No. 3 spot.

Youngstown State (7-9) heads to Marquette after previously defeating Cleveland State 4-3, to extend a four-match win streak. The Penguins' Remi Chanceral has won all his last four singles matches and last five doubles with Silviu Mistreanu at the No. 1 spot. The freshman was the lone member of YSU's squad to go undefeated against Cleveland State.

Cleveland State's (13-6) last match-up was against Xavier, where the Vikings secured a 5-2 decision. Junior Joe VanMeter tallied his 20th win of the season at No. 2 singles after defeating his Xavier opponent 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Manuel Bellutti has marked a 9-1 record in his last 10 singles matches, owning the Vikings longest win streak, with eight.

Returning from a five-match away swing, MU's final four matches will be on its home court. The Golden Eagles currently hold a 6-1 record at home for the dual campaign season, with the squad's only loss coming from Green Bay back in February.

Following Cleveland State, Marquette will face Wright State on Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m. and DePaul on Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. CT before the BIG EAST Championship April 24-26 in Indianapolis.
