April 13, 2011
The Marquette University men's tennis team will play its final regular season dual match of the year on Saturday, April 16 when it hosts BIG EAST Conference rival DePaul at 1 p.m.
Students in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in an iPad giveaway and will receive free pizza.
The Golden Eagles (13-9) have won eight of their nine home contests this year, including a pair of 6-1 victories over Detroit and Green Bay on April 9 and April 10. Sophomore Otavio Perim is 8-2 in his last 10 singles matches. The Woodlands, Texas, native has found his niche in the No. 3 and 4 positions this spring and has gone a combined 7-1 in those spots.
Marquette will honor its lone senior, Jose Manuel Munoz, at Saturday's match. The senior transferred to MU after spending two years at the University of San Diego. In Munoz's first season with the Golden Eagles he compiled an unblemished, 5-0, singles mark in dual matches. This past fall he collected four consecutive wins at the 2010 USTA/ITA Division I Midwest Regional Championships (Oct. 21-23) and advanced to the semifinals of the Ball State Invitational (Sept. 24-25).
DePaul (14-8) enters Saturday's matchup fresh off a second place finish at the Sun Belt Shootout on April 3. The Blue Demons, ranked No. 61 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, dropped the title match, 4-3, to Denver. Junior doubles partners George Chanturia and Matija Palinic are 6-1 at No. 1 doubles in dual match play.
Live results for the match will be available on GoMarquette.com
The Golden Eagles will travel to South Bend, Ind., for the BIG EAST Conference Championships on April 28-May 1.
