Marquette Wraps Up Regular Season At DePaul Saturday
April 13, 2012
The Marquette University men's tennis team (9-12) travels to DePaul (11-13) on Saturday, April 14, at 5 p.m. for its regular season finale.
Saturday's action consists of a doubleheader with the MU and DePaul men's and women's teams. The women's match will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the men's contest.
The Golden Eagles are in search of their first true road win Saturday at the Lake Shore Athletic Club in Chicago. This could be a golden opportunity against the Blue Demons of DePaul, who are losers of eight of their last 10 matches. Saturday's result will have an impact on next week's conference tournament, where head-to-head results are factored into the team rankings.
"DePaul is a very good team and have been really good at home this year," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "They will be a big challenge for us heading into the Big East Tournament. When you play good teams the margin is so small, so we will need to have all nine spots competing well on Saturday night."
Marquette is coming off a 4-3 victory in its 2011-2012 home finale against the Northern Illinois Huskies. It was the final home contest for seniors Drake Kakar and Jonathan Schwerin. Kakar, who picked up wins in singles and doubles versus NIU, clinched the team victory with a decision at the No. 6 position.
The Golden Eagles are winners of two out of their last three matches, posting victories against Northern Illinois and Idaho, while dropping a tough one to No. 69 USF.
This matchup against league rival DePaul is the final contest for the Golden Eagles
before they compete in the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Championships (April 19-22) in Tampa, Fla.
