Freshman Nick Dykema of the Marquette University men's tennis team has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league office announced late Thursday evening.

Dykema is the second MU player to claim the award in 2013-14. Senior Dan Mamalat earned the honor on a pair of occasions earlier during the dual match campaign.

Head-to-head matches are an important factor in determining seeds for the BIG EAST Tournament, and Dykema helped the Golden Eagles' cause by gaining the clinching point in their 4-3 victory over DePaul last weekend. The rookie from Green Bay, Wis., capped off a Marquette comeback with a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 win over Joshua Schramm. Dykema capped off an improbable comeback that saw the Golden Eagles erase a 3-1 deficit with three-straight singles wins in the third set. The rookie was also victorious at No. 3 doubles with Cameron Tehrani.

Dykema tops the roster with 25 singles victories, including a 14-7 mark in dual action.

Marquette wraps up its regular season this weekend at home with outings against league opponents Creighton and Butler.
