Marquette Travels To DePaul Saturday Afternoon
April 22, 2016
The Marquette University men’s tennis team (11-9) will conclude both BIG EAST Conference and regular season play Saturday, April 23 at DePaul (9-13).
First serve is set for 2:15 p.m. CT. The Golden Eagles last won at DePaul in 2014 when the team claimed a narrow 4-3 decision.
The Golden Eagles held off Butler (9-10) in a 5-2 decision April 16 in their final home match. The win secured a perfect 8-0 home record for Marquette's dual campaign. Sophomore Andre Romanello clinched the victory for Marquette with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 6 spot.
“The two programs are obviously very familiar with each other and it’s always a competitive and intense match,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “We are going to need to be locked in from the opening serve through the final point.”
The Blue Demons also held off BIG EAST Conference opponent Butler, 4-3, in their most recent win on April 17. DePaul remains undefeated (4-0) in BIG EAST play, recording each of four wins at home.
The matchup on Saturday will have a major impact on the seeding for the upcoming conference tournament. The eight-team field is bracketed by ITA ranking, head-to-head results and strength of schedule.
Following Saturday’s match, MU will head to Cayce, S.C. to participate in the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals on Friday, April 29.
