Men's Tennis Celebrates 2012-13 Campaign with Annual Banquet

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's tennis team honored and celebrated its 2012-13 campaign with its annual awards banquet Monday night in downtown Milwaukee.
"I was really proud of how the team continued to improve throughout the course of the year," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Our guys fought through a lot of adversity this year and I believe it will help us as we move towards next season."
Mamalat, who earned All-BIG EAST Team recognition for the second-straight season, was named the team's most valuable player for the third consecutive year. The Philadelphia, Pa., native finished 24-13 overall in singles play in 2012-13, while also accounting for 21 doubles wins. As the team's No. 1 singles player, he posted a team-best 19 victories in dual match play.
Collins took home a pair of awards from the event, including the Wa Are Marquette Coaches Attitude Award and the squad's Academic Achievement Award. Collins was one of four Marquette players to post over 20 singles victories on the season. He compiled a 20-16 overall singles mark on the campaign, with 14 of the wins coming in dual match play.
Teofanovic was recognized as the team's most improved player. After going 14-19 in singles play as a freshman in 2011-12, Teofanovic posted a 24-16 mark this past season. In doubles play during the dual season, he teamed up with Mamalat to post a 14-9 mark at No. 1 doubles.
Award winners were selected by a team vote.
