Marquette Celebrates 2016-17 Campaign With Team Banquet

The Marquette University men's tennis team celebrated its 2016-17 campaign Sunday night at the program's annual awards banquet.

Receiving accolades for their respective efforts this season were sophomore Greg Anderson, freshmen Brett Meyers and Brandon Shanklin, and senior Kristiyan Trukov.

Meyers claimed the Most Valuable Player Award for his impressive freshman campaign. The Naperville, Ill. native led the squad in dual wins with a 16-3 record playing at the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 spots.

Anderson was awarded the Most Improved Player honor for his performance this past season. The Tucson, Ari. native led the team in wins with an overall record of 18-14, a five-win improvement from last Spring. In dual competition, he earned a 14-9 record playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for the Golden Eagles.

The Coaches Attitude Award was received by freshman Brandon Shanklin. This honor recognizes the team member with the best work ethic, both on the court and in the classroom.

Trukov, who finished 11-7 in dual play, claimed the Academic Award for his dedication and determination in the classroom. The Gurnee, Ill. native will graduate this month with a degree in business.
