Marquette Announces Team Award Winners

The Marquette University men’s tennis team celebrated its historic 2017-18 campaign with an awards banquet Thursday, May 3 after winning its first-ever BIG EAST title.

Brett Meyers, Scott Christian, Alexander Warstler and Brandon Shanklin were the Golden Eagles honored for their efforts.

For the second-straight season, Meyers claimed the Most Valuable Player Award after notching a 15-5 singles record out of the third, fourth and fifth slots.

Shanklin brought home the Most Improved Award after collecting a 10-5 dual singles record after only playing in one dual match the previous season.

Christian won the Coaches Attitude Award. This honor recognizes the team member with the best work ethic in the court and in the classroom.

Finally, Warstler won the academic award for his strong performance in the classroom. The Cincinnati native has been recognized for his academic prowess before, as he was a member of the 2016-17 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.

The Golden Eagles will make their NCAA debut against No. 9 Illinois on Saturday, May 12 at 3 p.m. Central time in Urbana, Ill.
