The 39th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic continued Saturday at The Town Club in Fox Point, Wis., with singles and doubles competition.

Slightly warmer temperatures and sunny skies provided near-perfect conditions for the eight-team field, which will conclude action on Sunday with singles doubles competition in the round-robin format. The Town Club features clay courts, which makes the event one of the most unique in the country.

The men's team opened with singles competition against Air Force and swept all seven matches on the afternoon. The results were highlighted by the first-career win for freshman Scott Christian, who downed Dillon Launius 6-3, 6-3. Senior Cameron Tehrani won his marathon matchup, edging Nico Carpenter 6-4, 7-6. Redshirt sophomore Daniel Fernandez picked up his second win in as many days at No. 1 with a quick 6-4, 6-1 decision.

MU concluded day two at the MTC with doubles action against Ball State, alma mater of head coach Steve Rodecap. Marquette claimed three of the four outings, including the top two positions. Sophomore Nick Dykema and senior Vukasin Teofanovic earned an 8-6 decision at No. 1 and freshmen Andre Romanello and Scott Christian teamed up for the first time and claimed an 8-3 win.

The women's squad dropped each of its singles matchups with nationally ranked South Carolina before picking up a pair of wins in doubles against Western Michigan. MU's No. 1 duo of senior Ana Pimienta and junior Erin Gebes jumped out to a quick lead against its opponent and cruised to an 8-4 decision. The tandem of senior Ali Dawson and junior Aleeza Kanner captured a narrow victory at No. 2, downing WMU 8-7 in a hard-fought matchup.
