Play Continues At Milwaukee Tennis Classic

Sept. 17, 2016

The Marquette University men’s and women’s tennis teams continued play at the 41st Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Saturday with singles and doubles action at The Town Club in Fox Point, Wis.

The eight-team field will conclude action on Sunday with a final round of play in both singles and doubles. The women’s squad opened with singles play against Ball State and freshman Fleur Eggink was able to claim her second win in as many matches. On Saturday, she downed BSU’s Audrey Berger 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. Senior Diana Tokar and junior Paula Tormos Sanchez kept their hopes for the doubles title alive with a 7-5 win over Boise State. A final win tomorrow at the No. 1 position would secure the points-based championship.

The men’s team also started with singles, facing Navy on the clay courts. The Golden Eagles swept all seven of the matchups, dropping just one set on the afternoon. Sophomore Alvaro Verdu improved to 2-0 on the weekend at No. 1 with a 7-6, 6-2 decision and has placed himself in position to earn the singles award with a victory on Sunday.

Marquette concluded the day with doubles play against Ball State.
