Men's Tennis Continues Campaign At Notre Dame Invitational
Sept. 22, 2011
The Marquette University men's tennis team continues its 2011-12 campaign this weekend (Sept. 23-25) at the Tom Fallon Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
The Golden Eagles will join the host Fighting Irish, Illinois State, Cleveland State, Western Michigan and Ohio State in the weekend's field, which begins on Friday morning and wraps up Sunday afternoon. The participants will compete in both singles and doubles flights at the Courtney Tennis Center.
"The first road trip in the fall is always an important trip because we get to be around the players for an extended period of time," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "This year will be even more critical because we have four new players traveling."
Representing MU in South Bend this weekend will be freshmen Vukasin Teofanovic, James Starks, David Packowitz and Cameron Tehrani, sophomore Thibault Troude, junior Otavio Perim and seniors Drake Kakar and Jonathan Schwerin.
"Now that we have one event under our belt, I am hoping to see the younger guys take another step this weekend at Notre Dame," Rodecap added. "We are still evaluating the guys on an individual basis and it's important to each player to continue to develop individually, so when we get to the dual match season we have a clearer understanding of what each player brings to the team."
Marquette opened the season last weekend at the 36th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at The Town Club in Fox Point, Wis.
