Mamalat Advances at the ITA All-American Championship

MUNCIE, Ind./TULSA, Okla.- The Marquette University men's tennis team capped day two at the Ball State Invitational, and the first day of action at the ITA All-American Championship hosted by the University of Tulsa.
At the ITA All-American Championship, Mamalat defeated Southern Illinois' Badr Cherradi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, while Collins was defeated by Conor Berg of New Mexico, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Pre-Qualifying Draw. Mamalat will face Martin Ayala of Texas San Antonio in second round on Sunday.
Action at the Ball State Invitational was highlighted by Otavio Perim and James Stark winning three doubles matches in Flight A to advance to the finals. Perim and Start will face Louisville's Sumit Gupta and Michael Lippens in the finals on Sunday.
Also in doubles play, Drake Kakar and David Packowitz advanced to the semifinals of the Cardinal Doubles Flight by defeating IUPUI's Armaan and Deon Shafer, 8-6. The Golden Eagle duo later fell in the semifinals to Green Bay's Michael Tebon and Michael Tenzer, 8-3.
In singles action, Packowitz, Perim, Kakar and Vukasin Teofanovic all won their first singles matches of the day but later lost their respective round of 16 matches.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Sunday in Muncie, Ind., and in Tulsa, Okla.
