The Marquette University men's tennis team will travel to South Bend, Ind. this weekend for the Bobby Bayliss Invitational (Oct. 7-9) hosted by Notre Dame.
Tournament format features a portion of singles action split in three to four flights. Should a player finish his respective flight 3-0, he will have the opportunity to face an opponent from a higher-ranked draw on Sunday. Doubles will be set up in eight-game pro sets with a tiebreaker at 7-7. All matches will be held at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
The field includes Marquette, Notre Dame, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin. The Golden Eagles will send as many as seven players to compete in singles and doubles.
Last weekend, the Golden Eagles were represented by senior Mackenzie Stearns and sophomore Alvaro Verdu at Tulsa, Okla. for the ITA Men's All-American Championships. Stearns dropped his opening match and Verdu fell in consolation on Sunday.
Marquette continues its fall portion of the 2016-17 campaign following the Bobby Baliss Invitational at the ITA Midwest Regional in Columbus, Ohio from Oct. 20-24.
