Oct. 10, 2008
Milwaukee - The Marquette University men's tennis team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to compete in the Purdue Fall Invitational this weekend.
The Golden Eagles will join Purdue, Iowa, and Butler in the two-day event, featuring four singles flights and two doubles flights. Action begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Last season, Iowa was ranked No. 59 in ITA final rankings, and reached as high as 41 during the 2007-08 campaign. The host Boilermakers reached a ranking of No. 54 last season before falling out of the rankings in April.
Last year, Marquette collected a successful weekend at the Purdue Invitational, earning victories across the roster and coming home with second and third-place finishes. Senior Stephen Shao lost in the championship match of "Flight B" singles, while Junior Dusan Medan walked away with a third-place finish in the top flight.
Butler and Purdue joined the Golden Eagles at the Ball State Fall Invitational last weekend. At that event, Marquette posted a 5-4 record against competition from Butler and Purdue, including a MU-Purdue showdown in the "A" Men's Opens Singles Consolation Final Round and "C" Men's Open Doubles Final Round.
