Marquette Sends Four To ITA Midwest Regional

Oct. 19, 2016

The Marquette University men’s tennis team will send four representatives to the ITA Midwest Regional, hosted by Ohio State at the Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio from Oct. 20-24.

Marquette’s four representatives will be Alvaro Verdu, Luke Smrek, Nick Dykema, and Greg Anderson. Verdu and Smrek will be featured in the main draw, while Dykema and Anderson will play in the qualifying rounds. Anderson and Smrek will look to build on existing winning streaks, while Dykema and Verdu will look to snap three and four match skids, respectively.

The event will also feature doubles action, in which MU will feature Verdu/Dykema and Anderson/Smrek as its duos. It will be the first time this season either tandem is paired together in tournament competition.

Back on Oct. 1, the Golden Eagles sent Mackenzie Stearns and Verdu to the ITA All-American Championships. After losing his opening contest, Stearns was able to win his consolation match, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, to finish the weekend with a 1-1 record.

Following the ITA’s, the Golden Eagles will conclude their fall slate at the Redbird Classic in Normal, Ill. from Oct. 28-30.
