Marquette Continues Fall Season at ITA Midwest Regional Championship
Oct. 20, 2010
Milwaukee - The Marquette men's tennis team will return to action this weekend (Oct. 21-25) at the ITA Midwest Regional Championship hosted by fellow BIG EAST competitor Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
Six individuals will represent Marquette at the event. Logon Collins, Jose Manuel Munoz, Jonathan Schwerin and Thibault Troude will compete in the qualifying draw, while Dan Mamalat and Otavio Perim have earned spots in the main draw. MU will also have a trio of doubles squads.
"It's the best field we have faced this season and I think we have been playing well heading into the weekend," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "There will be plenty of opportunities to claim good results and the guys have to take advantage."
The Fighting Irish will play host to a 22-team field, which consists of Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Detroit, Eastern Illinois, Green Bay, Illinois, Illinois State, IPFW, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Toledo, UIC, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Wisconsin and Youngstown State.
Schwerin will look to carry his momentum into the regional championship after his successful play at Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational last weekend. After dropping his opening matchup, Schwerin didn't drop a set while advancing through the back draw and went on to capture the Flight B consolation title.
