Golden Eagles Wrap Up Fall Campaign At Texas Invite
Nov. 4, 2010
The Marquette men's tennis team will wrap up its fall campaign this weekend (Nov. 5-7) at the Texas Invitational, hosted by University of Texas in Austin, Tex.
Texas will welcome an 11-team field to the invitational, which consists of Baylor, Florida, Marquette, Oklahoma, Rice, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UT-Arlington and UT-San Antonio.
The tournament will feature a 32- player "A" and "B" singles draw and a doubles draw.
“We have played in this event the past few years and this is by far the strongest field I have seen participating,” head coach Steve Rodecap said. “It will be a great opportunity for our guys to compete out of our region against quality players.
“We have been playing and competing indoors for the past month and will be great preparation transitioning back outdoors,” Rodecap added. “We have to do that a lot in the spring and this just gives our players the chance to do it in the fall.”
The Golden Eagles will send seven players to the tournament: including Logon Collins, Dan Mamalat, Jonathan Schwerin, Otavio Perim, Drake Kakar, Jose Manuel Munoz and Thibault Troude. Senior Jose Manuel Munoz will look to continue his strong play from the ITA Midwest Championship (Oct. 21-25) where he collected four victories including a 6-4, 6-4 decision over No. 99-ranked Steven Williams of Ohio State.
The matches will take place at Texas' Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
