Nearly 1,500 people invaded the Helfaer Tennis Stadium Friday night for an evening highlighted by an exhibition matchup between professionals John Isner and Tim Smyczek, with proceeds from the night benefiting the Summit Inner-City Tutoring Program.

Isner gained fame with his marathon singles match at this year's Wimbledon and is currently ranked 19th in the world. Smyczek is 170th in the world and a native of Hales Corners, Wis.

Prior to the main event, Isner and Smyczek teamed up to take on tandems from both the Marquette men's and women's programs. Senior Christina Ruiz and junior Gillian Hush were the first to take the court and managed to post one victory in their four-game match. Men's players Otavio Perim and Jonathan Schwerin did the same, claiming their fourth game on a service ace from Schwerin.

Isner held off Smyczek to claim the main event, posting a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (11-9) decision to conclude the night's action on the court.

The night also included a silent auction, clinic by the USTA, autograph session and pro-am doubles match.
