Luis Heredia Gomez Signs With Marquette

Nov. 22, 2016

International standout Luis Heredia Gomez (Madrid, Spain) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Marquette University men’s tennis team and will join the program for the 2017-18 campaign, head coach Steve Rodecap announced Tuesday morning.

Gomez has been ranked as high as 1,495 in the ATP World Rankings and 101st in Spain. He claimed the top spot in the under-18 rankings in Madrid and has claimed titles at multiple tournaments in the city. He downed the Spanish national champion at the under-16 level and was a semifinalist in the Madrid event that season as well.

“We are really excited to welcome Luis and his family into the Marquette community, and we couldn’t be happier he has chosen to play his college tennis for Marquette,” Rodecap said. “I really enjoyed getting to know Luis during the recruiting process and truly believe he is a great fit for our program as a person, student, and as a competitor.

“He is a very athletic player with a good serve and a great backhand, but more importantly has shown us that he can compete at a very high level,” Rodecap added. “Luis is someone who will fit right into our culture, and will have an immediate impact to the success of our team.”

Heredia Gomez attends the Kensington School in Madrid, Spain.
