"I couldn't leave here to go train somewhere. I wanted to work with Todd. I know there's some great people out there and they do some great things, and I'm not trying to knock them, but Todd knows exactly what I need. He knows exactly how to make me mad, how to push me. He knows exactly what to do just to get me to keep pushing no matter what."

Strength and conditioning is an integral part of the athletes' periodized year round training at Marquette University. The Student-Athlete Performance staff works closely with each coaching staff and sports medicine to develop a program appropriate for their sport, catering to the strengths and weaknesses of the individual athletes.

MU features a pair of conveniently located facilities for each of its 14 intercollegiate programs to utilize, highlighted by the weight room in the Al McGuire Center. The 4,000-square foot state-of-the-art equipment available is highlighted by an Alter G Treadmill, which provides revolutionary body weight supported therapy. Also recently added to the facility was a JacobsLadder, a cardio machine specifically designed at a 40 degree angle in order to take stress off of the lower back.

The second weight room, located in Marquette Gym, gives the Golden Eagles a pair of spacious areas to conduct workout sessions.

The Marquette strength staff is directed by Todd Smith, who is assisted on a full-time basis by Nate Heyrman. Numerous interns are also employed by the athletics department, allowing specialized focus on each and every program.

Equipment available to MU student-athletes includes: 13,000 LBS of dumbbells, medicine balls, tractor tires, chains, sand bags, stability balls, squat racks and benches, climbing ropes, PowerPlate Vibration Platforms, treadmills and much more.
