After suffering a minor injury in preseason, Gales came off the bench in all but one game this season, earning a start in the season finale. She has registered 10 minutes a game in all but three contests. Her best scoring night came in the win over La Salle (Dec. 16) when she scored nine points. She also grabbed four rebounds. She also had four rebounds against Saint Francis (Pa.) (Nov. 30) and Wisconsin (Jan. 5). Gales had sporadic playing time, but received her most minutes of the season at Southern Miss (Feb. 9). She shot 3-of-6 from the floor, scoring eight points. She also grabbed a career-high six rebounds in that contest. As the season progressed, Gales provided more off the bench. She scored 11 points against East Carolina (Feb. 14), playing 18 minutes. She also scored six points at Cincinnati (Feb. 23). In 22 minutes in the C-USA Tournament, she scored 12 points against Memphis (March 6), hitting all three of her three point attempts. She was consistent on the glass, grabbing at least one rebound in every C-USA game this year. She grabbed five against TCU (Jan. 31), a season high six against Southern Miss (Feb. 9), and five against Charlotte (Feb. 16). 2001-2002 Gales missed the first two games of the season for Marquette while rehabilitating from an injured knee, but became a starter by the end of the year. The injury made her less productive early in the year while catching up from the missed time. However, she showed no signs of the injury as the season progressed. Gales averaged 2.6 points per game in her first eight games, but turned it around, scoring 10 or more points in eight of the final 16 regular season games. She has also found her way into the starting lineup, starting the last 16 games. Marquette was 8-8 when she started. Gales' breakout game this season came against Saint Mary's when she scored a career high 15 points off the bench. She moved into the starting lineup following that game. She helped Marquette knock off no. 20 Colorado State with a 12 point effort in her first start of the season. Gales broke a string of five games with double digit scoring efforts against Saint Louis with four points, however, she set a career high with six assists. She also topped double figures with 12 points against Cincinnati and 11 against TCU. Gales struggled from behind the three-point arc later in the season, hitting just one of her last 23 three point attempts. 2000-2001 With a 4.1 points per game average in 2000-01, Gales moved into the starting lineup for 14 consecutive games before returning to the bench for the five games of the year. Gales hit 29 percent of her shots, with nine points against Northern Iowa, 10 against Louisville and a career high 14 against DePaul. Gales also added a four point effort against Wis.-Milwaukee and a two point, three assist night against Syracuse. She provided a defensive spark coming off the bench in the second half against Michigan and added two points. Gales had a big game off the bench against Notre Dame, scoring seven points as Marquette's second highest scorer on the night. She earned her first start of her career against DePaul, hitting 3-of-6 shots for six points. In her second career start, she scored eight points against Colorado State, hitting three of four shots from the line. Gales recorded a five-point, three assist night against Charlotte. She scored a combined 16 points on a homestand which included losses to Tulane and Southern Miss. In her 14 games as starter, Gales averaged 23.8 minutes per game. In the last five regular season games, she saw only 13.5 minutes per game. 1999-2000 A versatile performer, Gales became a consistent player off the bench. She played in 28 games, appearing at both back court positions and averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per game. Gales made her collegiate debut in the U.S. Cellular Arena against Iowa in the season-opener. She netted four collegiate points at Oregon State and logged a career-high 19 minutes in back-to-back games against South Florida and Houston. She had three points and career-highs of six rebounds and three assists against USF before getting six points and four boards versus the Cougars. Gales went 2-2 from three-point range towards a career-high seven points at DePaul. She made her NCAA Tournament debut against Western Kentucky (March 18). High School (Burnsville) An All-State Honorable Mention and All-Lake Conference First Team following her sophomore and senior seasons, Gales was also a St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State Honorable Mention as a sophomore and senior. She was selected to the Minnesota Metro vs. Out-State All-Star Game following her senior season A finalist for Ms. Basketball Minnesota as a senior, Gales was a four-year varsity starter for Burnsville. She helped lead the team to the Large School State Championship as a freshman and earned a spot on the State All-Tournament Team. She also earned All-Lake Conference Honorable Mention honors as a freshman. She missed half of her junior season following surgery on her right (shooting hand) thumb. Her final stats were 870 points, 307 rebounds, 203 assists and 192 steals. She tallied 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals as a senior and was team captain during that campaign. A two-time Burnsville MVP, Gales was the recipient of the Burnsville High School Outstanding Athlete Award as a senior. She also participated on the varsity soccer squad and was selected as one of Burnsville's Top 100 Seniors. Personal Born April 24, 1981, Gales is the daughter of Darrie and Judy Gales.
