2000-2001: Stieber became a solid all-around performer for Marquette as she showed the ability to play a number of positions. She showed a talent for driving to the basket and making a difficult shot in traffic. Stieber scored a then season-high six points against Syracuse with a scoop shot in the lane and with four free throws. A 75 percent free throw shooter, Stieber finished third on the team in free throw accuracy. Stieber averaged 3.1 points per game, eighth on the team, and scored in all but six contests in 2000-2001. Stieber hit two important baskets early in the contest with Notre Dame and was 2-of-2 from the floor to help up her average to 3.3. Against Colorado State, Stieber added two baskets in the paint. Against UAB, Stieber scored the first double digit game of her career, scoring 10 points, with eight in the second half, on five field goals. She hit three field goals for six points against Cincinnati in a victory. She hit her first career three pointer, her only basket of the game, against Southern Miss. In 12 minutes of action against Charlotte in the C-USA Tournament, she scored eight points on a 4-of-5 shooting night. High School (Mosinee): Stieber joined current Marquette teammate Kelly Schwerman as preseason player of the year prior to her senior year by Wisconsin AAU Girls' Basketball Magazine. She was named to the all-state team following that season after scoring 15.9 points and grabbing 9.6 rebounds as a senior. Mosinee went undefeated (27-0) in her senior year to win the state title. She averaged 12.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest as a junior, leading Mosinee to a 24-1 record. That squad advanced to the Division 2 state semifinals. She was an All-America Honorable Mention selection by Street & Smith and was a four-time all-conference selection. Stieber lettered all four seasons in basketball and earned three letters in softball. She was the basketball team's MVP for three years and Mosinee compiled a 96-4 record during her career. Personal: Born April 16, 1982 in Wausau, Wis., Stieber is the daughter of Francis and Cindy Stieber. Her sister, Theresa, played basketball at the junior college level. She comes from a large family, also with three older brothers, Jeremy, Tony and Aaron, a younger brother, Daniel, and an younger sister, Julie. She is a speech pathology major. |
