Marquette Falls at Villanova, 68-48

VILLANOVA, Pa.-- The Marquette women's basketball team (4-10, 0-3) concluded a two-game road trip with a 68-48 loss at Villanova (7-7, 2-1) on Sunday afternoon at The Pavilion.
Senior Cristina Bigica and freshman Kenisha Bell each tallied 16 points to lead the Golden Eagles in the game. They each also took down six rebounds apiece. Freshman Shantelle Valentine shot 3-for-4 from the field for six points and pulled down five boards.
Bell has recorded double digits in 12-of-14 games played this season.
Marquette finished the day shooting 38.2 percent (21-55) from the field, but went 0-for-6 from three-point range. The Golden Eagles scored half of their points in the paint with 28 and held `Nova to just 12 points down low.
Bigica led the Golden Eagles with nine points in the first half as the squad struggled shooting 31.8 percent (7-22) from the field. MU trailed just two points, 6-4, at the 15:16 mark in the first half, but Villanova used a 16-4 run over six minutes, which extended its lead to 22-8. Marquette trailed 43-18 at the half, its lowest total of points scored in a half this season.
Lauren Burford and Caroline Coyer led the Wildcats with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Villanova shot 13 three-point baskets and 23-for-55 (41.8 percent) from the field in the game. `Nova has now claimed a victory in three of the past four meetings.
The Golden Eagles will return home to prepare for DePaul on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 p.m. CT before hosting Butler on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. CT. Friday's game will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports Go.
