PROVIDENCE-- The Marquette women's basketball team extends its winning streak to five games and remains unbeaten in league action as the Golden Eagles took a 77-60 victory away from Providence to cap a long road trip.
Since BIG EAST realignment Marquette is just the second team to open the season with a 5-0 record. DePaul started league play at 8-0 last season.
Danielle King led four Golden Eagles in double figures as she paced Marquette (11-5, 5-0) with 21 points in the game, while Allazia Blockton (18), Amani Wilborn (12) and Erika Davenport tallied 10. Davenport poured in another career night with her fifth double-double of the year, grabbing a career-best 17 boards.
A 16-2 run over a five-minute stretch in the fourth quarter sealed the win for the Golden Eagles as the squad forced PC into 24 total turnovers in the game, grabbing 27 points. Marquette shot 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor, including hitting six shots from long range.
MU had a poor shooting performance in the first half connecting on just 14 of the 36 attempts (38.9 percent), but scored 18 points in the paint and took 12 points off 13 of the Friars miscues to hold a 37-30 advantage at halftime.
Marquette has a short turnaround and will head home to host Butler on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. CT, live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
