MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's basketball team defeated the Providence Friars 87-79 Tuesday evening at the Al McGuire Center.

Katherine Plouffe, the BIG EAST conference's leading scorer, continued her outstanding play tallying 23 points in the victory over the Friars. The Edmonton, Alberta native connected on 10-of-16 shots from the field, all of which were high-percentage looks. The senior forward also helped facilitate the Golden Eagle offense by contributing five assists.

For the second time this season Marquette featured five players with double-digit point totals. Plouffe, Katie Young, Apiew Ojulu, Arlesia Morse and Brooklyn Pumroy all scored in double figures.

The Golden Eagles shot 53% from the field and assisted on 23 of their 34 baskets, and took a 43-29 advantage on the glass. Pumroy orchestrated MU's offense all evening, leading the team with six assists.

Young registered her eighth double double of the season, tallying 12 points and 10 boards. Redshirt-sophomore Lauren Tibbs also dished out a career-high four assists.

Providence was led by freshman guard Sarah Beal who poured in 27 points, including a 10-of-12 shooting performance from the charity stripe.

Marquette returns to action Saturday, Jan. 25, when it heads to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Creighton Bluejays.
