OMAHA, Neb.  – Allazia Blockton recorded her third double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Marquette women’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaker at Creighton, 80-77, on Sunday afternoon.

Blockton’s 25 points led four Golden Eagles (16-6, 7-4 BIG EAST) in double digits as Danielle King added 14 points, while Natisha Hiedeman and Amani Wilborn chipped in 10 points apiece. Erika Davenport fell two points shy of recording her 12th double-double of the season, adding a game-high 13 rebounds in the loss.

Creighton (15-6, 9-2 BIG EAST) used a 10-1 run over last 1:43 and outscored MU 24-13 in the final 10 minutes, leading for a grand total of 30 seconds in the contest. After the Bluejays made two free throws with 36 seconds remaining to pull to within 77-76, they forced an MU turnover that led to the go-ahead basket with 17 seconds left for the lead – one they would not relinquish. King’s three-point attempt on Marquette’s final possession with a chance to tie rimmed out.

Sydney Lamberty and Audrey Faber led five Bluejays in double digits with 14 points each. CU shot 43.3 percent (29-67) from the field for the contest, including 7-for-22 from beyond the three-point arc, and 15-for-19 from the free throw line. Marquette shot 45.9 percent (28-61) from the field, including 6-for-17 from three, and 15-for-19 from the charity stripe.

MU led the entire first half and by as many as 13 points in the first quarter. Creighton closed out the first half on a 6-0 run, but the Golden Eagles took a 44-37 lead into the break. MU finished the half shooting 47.1 percent (16-34) from the floor and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Blockton led the squad with 10 points at the break, while Davenport had recorded eight points and grabbed eight boards.

Marquette will look to get back on track on Friday, Feb. 3, returning home to face Seton Hall for a rare 11:30 a.m. Central time start. It will be Catholic Schools Day inside the Al McGuire Center and the contest will air live on Fox Sports Wisconsin.
