VILLANOVA, Pa.-- The Marquette University women's basketball team dropped an 81-60 decision at Villanova on Sunday afternoon at The Pavilion.
The Golden Eagles (11-13, 6-7) were led by Natisha Hiedeman with 15 points, while Erika Davenport and Allazia Blockton also reach double digits with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Hiedeman matched a career-high with nine boards, just shy of her first career double-double.
Villanova (15-10, 8-6) was led by Alex Louin with her career-high of 28 points, while Caroline Coyer tallied 25.
Villanova opened the first half on a 17-0 run before a layup from Davenport put MU on the board with 4:25 left in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles then went on a 15-5 run to pull within five point, 22-17 with 5:12 left to play in the half. Marquette shot 13-34 for 38.2 percent in the first half and connected on 18 points in the paint as the squad headed into the locker room trailing, 35-28.
After Villanova opened the second half with hot-shooting, a jumper from Shantelle Valentine closed the gap to just nine points, 47-38, but that was as close as the Golden Eagles would get in the second half after the Wildcats went on a 13-2 run and kept hitting their shots.
Marquette finished the game shooting 44.3 percent from the field, (27-61) and pulled down 27 boards, while dishing out 16 assists.
The Golden Eagles return home to the Al McGuire Center to host Butler on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Central time, live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
