Marquette Bests Xavier, 80-63

CINCINNATI, Ohio--The Marquette women's basketball team got its road trip off to a strong start with an 80-63 victory over Xavier on Friday evening at the Cintas Center.
The Golden Eagles improved to 16-8 overall and 10-3 in BIG EAST action as Allazia Blockton led the squad with 23 points. Also, in double digits was Natisha Hiedeman with 18, shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, and Amani Wilborn with 13 points.
Marquette matched a season high three-pointers with 13 and finished the game dishing 21 assists to just nine turnovers, while scoring 29 points from 15 miscues by the Musketeers (9-16, 2-12). The Golden Eagles shot 45.6 percent (31-68) from the floor.
Xavier was led by Jada Byrd with 22 points, while three other Musketeers recorded nine points apiece.
Marquette overcame a slow start in the first quarter by shooting 85 percent in the second frame and outscoring the Musketeers, 29-9, to head into halftime holding a 41-23 advantage. The Golden Eagles combined to shoot 15-for-31 in the first half (48.4-percent) and take 18 points off eight Xavier turnovers.
The Golden Eagles will head to Butler to take on the Bulldogs Sunday, Feb. 11 at Noon CT from historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. The game will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
