Marquette Tops Butler, 72-66

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Marquette women's basketball team sank seven-for-eight free throws in the final 21 seconds of action and was able to outlast Butler, 72-66, on Friday evening at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs hit 14 three-point baskets and led for 12 minutes of game action, but the Golden Eagles (18-7, 9-5) stayed tough and prevailed down the stretch, outscoring Butler 25-21 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.
Marquette was led by Erika Davenport with her 12th double-double of the season, pouring in 19 points and grabbing 11 boards, while Allazia Blockton and Natisha Hiedeman each added 14 points. Fellow sophomore Danielle King added 13 points.
The Golden Eagles finished the night shooting 41.9 percent (26-62) and outrebounded Butler (5-19, 2-11), 45-32, while taking 38 points in the paint.
The Bulldogs were led by Sydney Buck with a game-high 21 points on 7-for-15 shooting from beyond-the-arc.
The Golden Eagles now travel to Xavier and will take on the Musketeers on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. Central time, live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
