MILWAUKEE-- The Marquette University women's basketball team (13-13, 8-7 BIG EAST) improved their home game winning-streak to seven games after defeating Xavier,74-69, at the Al McGuire Center Sunday afternoon, which sealed the season series at 1-1, with each team winning on its home court.

The victory over Xavier brings Marquette's conference record to 8-7 and increases their home record to 9-3. The Golden Eagles set the pace defensively early in the game, forcing nine Xavier turnovers in the first half and holding Xavier to just 4-18 from 3-point range.

Freshman Allazia Blockton started off strong in the first half, recording 12 points and 7 rebounds. She continued to impress, tallying her 10th double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Junior forward McKayla Yentz was also a presence on the glass for Marquette, pulling down a career-high 12 rebounds and scoring 10 points for her first career double-double.

Also in double digits for Marquette was Natisha Hiedeman with 18 points as she dished five assists and grabbed four steals. Erika Davenport added 10 points to the total and each MU player who saw action scored at least four points.

Marquette shot 29-61 (47.5 percent) from the field, including eight shots from beyond-the-arc and 18 points off of the Musketeers' miscues.

Xavier briefly retook the lead in the third quarter, 41-39, but Marquette quickly responded with a 9-0 scoring run to put the squad back up, 48-41. The Golden Eagles continued to control the game as they began the 4th quarter on a 15-4 run to extend their lead 69-52. Xavier guard Raeshaun Gaffney proved to be a force offensively with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds, including six boards on the offensive glass.

Marquette will head out on its final regular season road trip next week facing Creighton on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Central time before heading to Providence on Sunday, Feb. 21 at Noon CT. Both games will air on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
