Butler's Double-Double Not Enough to Top Cincinnati

CINCINNATI - Freshman Chelsie Butler registered her second double-double of her career, but the Marquette University women's basketball team fell at Cincinnati Tuesday evening, 60-46.
Butler scored a team-high 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Katherine Plouffe and Arlesia Morse each contributed 10 points in the loss. Bjonee Reaves led the Bearcats (15-12, 6-8 BIG EAST), who won their fourth straight game, with 15 points.
The Golden Eagles' (13-14, 4-10 BIG EAST) struggles continued as they shot 36.7 percent for the game, while the Bearcats owned a 46.9 percent clip from the floor and hit 46.7 of their attempts from long range.
The Bearcats used a 8-2 run to take a 10-point lead, 24-14, with 7:42 left in the first half and pushed that lead to 17 points, 39-22, by the end of the first half.
Out of the intermission, Reaves hit her fourth 3-pointer of the game to give Cincinnati its largest lead at 20-points just 24 seconds into the second half.
Butler, Simmons and Young scored buckets for Marquette to help it chip away at the deficit and cut UC's lead to 14 points with 14:00 to play.
Marquette finished the night on a 7-1 run to outscore Cincinnati in the second half, 24-21.
The Golden Eagles will play their final home game of the season Saturday, Feb. 25 against No. 4/4 Connecticut at the Al McGuire Center. The 4 p.m. tip-off will air live on Sports32.
