Marquette Falls in Overtime at Seton Hall, 90-86

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.--The Marquette women's basketball team (18-8, 9-6) could not withstand a late Seton Hall surge as it fell 90-86, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium.
Katie Young sank a pair of free throws in the final nine seconds of the game, but Seton Hall ran to the other end of the court and nailed a 3-point basket in the final seconds of regulation, which tied the game at 82 and sent it into overtime.
MU scored the first four points in the extra period on a lay-up from Young and classmate Katherine Plouffe, but the Pirates (16-10, 7-8) used an 8-0 run in the final 2:52 to take command and win the game.
For just the third time this season, Marquette had two players score 20 or more points, led by Plouffe's 23 and Young's 21. Each senior recorded a double double, Plouffe's 11th and Young's 10th this year. Junior Apiew Ojulu notched 10 points.
The Golden Eagles held a lead for the majority of the first half, trailing by just one point at the 13:58 mark, but used a 12-3 run in the next four minutes to lead 24-16. Seton Hall connected on two free throws in the final 1.1 seconds of action as MU took a 39-32 lead into the break.
Plouffe was 6-6 in the first half for 13 points as MU shot a stellar 53.1 percent (17-32) from the floor.
Seton Hall was led by Tabitha Richardson-Smith with a game-high 38 points, while Alexis Brown notched 24 points.
Marquette owned a 50-38 advantage on the glass and shot 46.2 percent (30-65) from the floor.
The Golden Eagles will continue their road swing and travel to conference-leaders St. John's on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. Central time.
