MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette women's basketball team won its fourth game in-a-row on Friday as the Golden Eagles topped Georgetown, 80-70.
MU (21-7, 12-5) had four players with double-digit scoring as Natisha Hiedeman led with 18 points and five rebounds, followed by Allazia Blockton with 17 points and nine rebounds. Erika Davenport poured in 14 points and 11 rebounds, for her 14th double-double of the season, while McKayla Yentz chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds.
It was a close scoring margin the entire game as Marquette narrowly led 33-29 at the end of the first half. The Golden Eagles experienced a lapse of turnovers, but regained possession and the edge by out-rebounding the Hoyas (25-17) within the first two frames.
Hiedeman knocked down a pair of threes early in the third quarter to ignite the Marquette offense. MU would go on to shoot 41.2 percent (7-17) from beyond the arc, holding the Hoyas to just 14.3 percent (2-14) from three-point range, while shooting 42.2 percent (27-64) combined from the field. Despite eight lead changes, the Golden Eagles led for over 32 minutes of play and pulled away for a 10-point victory within the final quarter of action.
The Hoyas (19-8, 9-8) were led by Dorothy Adomako with 21 points and nine rebounds.
With the victory, Marquette has secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament, hosted by the Golden Eagles March 4-7. MU has secured a first-round bye and will face the still to-be-determined No. 6 seed on Sunday, March 5 at 2:30 p.m. Central time in the Al McGuire Center.
Marquette will play its final regular season game on Sunday at 2 p.m. as the team hosts Villanova, which will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network. Following the game, the squad will honor and recognize lone senior McKayla Yentz in a postgame ceremony on the court.
