No. 23 Golden Eagles Close Out Regular Season With 69-60 Victory at St. John's

NEW YORK (AP) - Krystal Ellis scored 19 points to lead No. 23 Marquette to a 69-60 victory over St. John's Monday night. The Golden Eagles will meet the winner of the Cincinnati/Pittsburgh game in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament which begins Saturday, March 3, in Hartford, Conn. Marquette receieved one of four first round byes as the no. 3 seed and will wait to play until Sunday, March 4, at 8 p.m. ET.

Christina Quaye added 14 points for the Golden Eagles (24-5, 12-4 Big East), who led 31-17 at the half.

Kia Wright scored a game-high 23 points for the Red Storm (8-19, 4-12), who lost their third straight game. Monique McLean added 14 for St. John's. By virtue of victories by Villanova, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, the Red Storm earned the 12th and final spot in the conference tournament

A free throw by McLean got St. John's within 10-9, but Marquette used a 17-2 run behind Ellis six points to take a commanding 27-11 lead.

The Golden Eagles outscored the Red Storm 25-10 for a 56-37 lead - their largest of the game - in the second half on a free throw by Kelly Lam. Lam finished the game with five points and a career high six rebounds.
