VILLANOVA, Pa.-- The Marquette women's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 81-64 loss to Villanova at The Pavilion on Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles (20-9, 11-7) were led by sophomore Brooklyn Pumroy with 13 points, while junior Arlesia Morse tallied 12. Senior Katherine Plouffe recorded 11 points.

Villanova was led by Emily Leer and Devon Kane who each poured in 23 points.

Marquette owned the advantage on the glass with a 30-22 rebounding margin and shot 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor in the game.

Marquette got on the board first, but the first half was a tale of runs as Villanova used a 13-0 run over four minutes, which gave the Wildcats a 19-6 advantage with 12:42 left in the half. The Golden Eagles cut the lead to just four points, 24-20, but Villanova's offense continued to be white hot as the Wildcats shot 64.0 percent (16-25) from the floor and hit eight 3-point baskets.

Morse and Pumroy led MU with nine points apiece in the first half and the squad combined to shoot 42.3 percent (11-26) in the first frame.

With the loss, Marquette will have the No. 5 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and face No. 4 seed Villanova on Sunday, March 9 at 8:30 Central time. This year's tournament will be held at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. The full bracket will be released later this evening once all games are completed.
