No. 6 MU Falters to No. 3 Seton Hall, 93-86
March 6, 2016
CHICAGO-- A career-high 31 points from BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Allazia Blockton, led four players in double digits, but it was not enough to extend the season as the No. 6 seed, Marquette University women's basketball team fell to No. 3 seed Seton Hall, 93-86, on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
Blockton's 31 points set a new Marquette (14-16) scoring record in the BIG EAST Tournament, with 24 of those points coming in the second half. Natisha Hiedeman tallied 17 points, while Danielle King added 15 points and six rebounds. Erika Davenport posted her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Golden Eagles played Seton Hall tough right until the final minute, but couldn't overcome 62.5 percent shooting from the Pirates in the second half.
Marquette shot 42.9 percent (30-70) from the field, and was narrowly outrebounded, 39-38, while picking up 20 points off of 13 miscues from Seton Hall.
Marquette concludes the season with a 14-16 record, well surpassing last season's win-total and more than doubled its BIG EAST mark at 9-9.
