Marquette Drops a 77-51 Contest to Seton Hall

ROSEMONT, Ill.--The Marquette University women's basketball team concluded its season on Sunday with a 77-51 loss to No. 1 seed Seton Hall in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. The Golden Eagles finish the year with a 9-22 overall record.
Senior Arlesia Morse and freshman Kenisha Bell combined for 38 of MU's 51 points in the game. Morse tallied 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Bell recorded 14 points. Morse finishes her Marquette career with 1,577 career points and is ninth all-time. Bell set a Marquette freshman scoring record with 434 in her first year.
The Golden Eagles shot 29.0 percent (18-62) in the game and was narrowly outrebounded, 50-43. They played Seton Hall close until the 8:05 mark in the first half, which had the two teams tied at 17 each. From there the Pirates used a 21-6 run to close out the first half and Marquette would not come closer than 12 points again in the game.
MU shot 32.1 percent (9-21) in the first half, but received scoring from just three players as Morse notched 13 points, Bell tallied six and freshman Shantelle Valentine scored four points. The Pirates crushed the backboards in the first half grabbing 30 rebounds, while the Golden Eagles pulled down just 18.
Seton Hall was led Tabatha Richardson-Smith with a game-high 31 points and 11 boards, while Daisha Simmons posted 14 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds.
