Golden Eagles Defeat Carthage, 64-38, in Exhibition Play

MILWAUKEE - Three players scored in double figures to lead the Marquette women's basketball team to a 64-38 win over Carthage College in the Golden Eagles' lone exhibition game of the 2011-12 season Saturday evening at the Al McGuire Center.


Sarina Simmons led all scorers with 12 points while Apiew Ojulu and Gabi Minix each chipped in 10 points. Katherine Plouffe was two points shy of a double-double and finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.

Marquette shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) for the game and scored 27 points off Carthage's 28 turnovers.

The Golden Eagles held the Lady Red to just four points for nearly eight minutes in the first half, while going on a 8-0 run to hold a 14-point lead (18-4). Marquette pushed that lead to 22 points, 28-6, and finished the first half ahead, 31-14.

Marquette maintained its 20-point advantage for the majority of the second half and took its largest lead of the game, 33 points (64-31) with 3:37 left to play. The


Golden Eagles will officially open the 2011-12 season at the Al McGuire Center Saturday, Nov. 12 against Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m.
