Marquette Defeats Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 96-44

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University women's basketball team defeated the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 96-44 Monday night at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles (2-0) jumped out to a 12-0 lead early on in the contest, and continued to further the advantage, leading 58-27 at the half. MU shot a blistering 55 percent in the first half and received scoring contributions from nine different players.
Five players for MU tallied double-digit point totals on the evening, including junior sharp-shooter Arlesia Morse, who poured in 19 points off the bench. Katherine Plouffe and Katie Young each contributed double doubles for the second time in as many games to begin the season. Plouffe notched 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Young contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Apiew Ojulu scored in double figures for the second straight game, tallying 15. Brooklyn Pumroy continued her heady play at point guard with six assists, after notching a career-high nine assists in the season opening win against Wake Forest on Saturday.
Freshman McKayla Yentz recorded her first collegiate points on a layup at the 5:50 mark in the second half.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff was led by Cassidy Wright, Christina Lasane and Carlisha Walker, who all tallied nine points on the evening.
Marquette returns to action Sunday, Nov. 17 when it heads to Nashville, Tenn., to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores at 2 p.m. Central time.
