Marquette Drops an 83-51 Decision at No. 7 Duke

DURHAM, N.C.-- The Marquette University women's basketball team (1-3) fell at No. 7/7 Duke (3-0) on Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Senior Arlesia Morse led the Golden Eagles with 17 points, all in the second half, with five 3-point baskets. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman Kenisha Bell tallied 10 points, her fourth-straight game in double digits.
Marquette took an 8-4 lead in the game's opening minutes, but the Blue Devils used a 14-0 burst over five minutes to take control of the game with an 18-8 lead and 11:21 left in the first half. The Golden Eagles struggled from the line in the first half shooting 7-22 at 21.2 percent and trailed 42-20 at the half.
Morse got the Golden Eagles rolling in the second half with a three-point shot just 10 seconds into the frame. MU was able to go on a 7-0 run over 1:16 of play, which cut Duke's lead to just 12 points, 52-40 in that frame. Morse totaled five of the points in that run.
Marquette came as close as 12 points again, 61-49, with 9:29 remaining after Chelsie Butler converted a lay-up, but a jumper from Cristina Bigica at the 7:22 mark was the last time MU would score. The Blue Devils went on an 18-0 run over the last 7:22 of play and finished with the 83-51 victory.
Duke was led Rebecca Greenwell with 22 points and 12 boards, while Azura Stevens notched 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles finished the game shooting 28.1 percent (18-64) from the field and sank nine shot from beyond-the-arc.
Marquette will return home to begin a two-game homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 26 when the squad hosts crosstown-foe, Milwaukee. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center and will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
