Marquette Falls at Creighton, 63-61

OMAHA, Neb. - Senior Angel Robinson scored a season-high 32 points, but it was not enough as the Marquette women's basketball team fell at Creighton, 63-61, Sunday afternoon at D.J. Sokol Arena. The loss is the Golden Eagles (5-1) first of the season and snaps their five-game win streak, while the Bluejays improve to 3-2 overall.
The Golden Eagles held as much as a nine-point advantage in the second half, but were unable to hold onto the lead.
Robinson led all scorers with 32 points, while Sarina Simmons contributed 15 points and Katherine Plouffe added 10 points. For the game, the Golden Eagles shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the floor, and made 15-of-19 attempts from the free throw line.
The Bluejays gave a balanced scoring effort with five players chipping in 10-or-more points led by Kelsey Woodard with 13 points. Creighton finished the game making 45.8 percent (22-of-48) of its field goal attempts, including five from long range.
After the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 18-11 lead just over 10 minutes into the game, Creighton used a 10-2 run to go ahead, 21-20, with 4:44 left in the first half. Neither team led by more than two points for the remainder of the first frame.
Robinson finished the first half with 14 of MU's 28 points.
The two teams traded baskets to start the second half until Sarina Simmons sparked a 6-0 MU run to give Marquette its largest lead of the game, nine points, 41-32, with 13:39 left in the game.
The Bluejays chipped away at MU's lead and tied the score at 46-46 following a 3-pointer by Kelsey Woodard and a lay-up by Carli Tritz. Sam Schuett's basket gave Creighton the two-point lead with 7:34 left to play and from there, the Bluejays never trailed.
Robinson helped Marquette tie the score on two occasions in the final 1:18 of the game at 59-59 and again at 61-61.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action at the Al McGuire Center on Wednesday, Dec. 1, when they host Iona at the Al McGuire Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
