Marquette Falls in Close Game at Wisconsin, 71-68

MADISON, Wis.- - Four players posted double figures on Wednesday evening, but the Marquette women's basketball team (4-3) fell at Wisconsin, 71-68 at the Kohl Center.
Junior Katherine Plouffe had 12 points and a season-high-tying 13 rebounds with four assists. Sophomore Arlesia Morse led Marquette with 15 points, including three from beyond-the-arc, while sophomore Chelsie Butler recorded a career-high 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Freshman Brooklyn Pumroy also posted 12 points.
As a squad the Golden Eagles combined to shoot 27-for-55 (49.1-percent) from the field. MU also outrebounded Wisconsin 35-29, which was the third consecutive game that Marquette pulled down more boards than its opponent.
MU was tied with the Badgers, 63-63 with 5:43 remaining in the game. Morse sank a shot from long range with 54 seconds left to play, which closed the lead at 69-68, but Wisconsin converted both free throw attempts with 14 seconds left. Morse missed a long three as the buzzer sounds and the Badgers won, 71-68.
MU trailed early in the first half, 21-6 at the 15:39 mark, but went on an 18-2 run over the next five minutes to take 24-23 lead. Marquette trailed the Badgers, 43-41 at the break.
The Golden Eagles shot a blistering 58.1 percent on 18-for-31 shooting in the first half. The Badgers were connecting on shots from beyond-the-arc, hitting 8-for-13 three-point shots.
Wisconsin was led by Morgan Paige with 19 points.
The Golden Eagles return home for a five-game homestand and will host Green Bay on Saturday, Dec. 8. Tip-off is slated for 2:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Time Warner Sports 32.
