Marquette Falls To Green Bay, 78-63
Dec. 6, 2016
MILWAUKEE--Despite a spark in the third quarter, the Marquette women's basketball team could not keep an offensive rhythm and fell to Green Bay, 78-63, on Tuesday night at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles (6-2) were held to shooting just 41 percent from the floor and 28 percent from beyond the arc, but had 18 points contributed by the bench.
Sophomore Natisha Hiedeman led all MU scorers with 17 points on 7-18 shooting while classmate Erika Davenport chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Allazia Blockton tallied 11 points as the final player in double-digit scoring for the Blue & Gold, while Amani Wilborn dished out seven assists.
An 11-0 run defined the first quarter for the Phoenix, carrying over to a 41-26 lead at the half. The Golden Eagles came out aggressively in the third quarter, shooting 57.1 percent from three-point range with Hiedeman leading the effort. Marquette pushed to outscore the Phoenix 24-19 in the third frame, cutting the Green Bay lead to just single digits, but the Phoenix pushed back and answered every time Marquette would cut into the deficit and never trailed in the contest.
Green Bay was led by Jessica Lindstrom, who registered a double-double (24 points, 12 rebounds) and went 5-for-6 from long distance.
MU will travel west on highway I-94 Sunday to face rival Wisconsin in Madison at 1 p.m. Central time. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
