MILWAUKEE-- The Marquette women's basketball team (7-2) showed its depth on Sunday afternoon with a 71-52 victory over crosstown rival Milwaukee (2-8) at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers' defense held MU's leading scorers Katherine Plouffe and Katie Young to a combined 10 points, but the Golden Eagles had no trouble as they still had four scorers in double digits. Junior Apiew Ojulu led the charge with 18 points, while classmate Cristina Bigica recorded a career-best 15 points. Redshirt freshman Ashley Santos poured in a career-high 12 points, while sophomore Lauren Tibbs notched a season-best 10. Bigica also dished out seven assists to her teammates.

The senior duo, Plouffe and Young led the defense with 15 and 12 boards, respectively, while MU dominated the glass, 54-36.

The Golden Eagles shot 39.7 percent (25-63) in the game, including four three-point baskets and held Milwaukee to 27.3 percent (18-66) shooting from the floor.

After jumping out to a 25-12 lead early in the first half, MU went on a scoreless drought for over three minutes until a pair of free throws from Tibbs snapped the stretch. Milwaukee went on a 9-0 run during the stretch and the Golden Eagles didn't tally another field goal until a layup from Tibbs at the 6:50 mark in the first half.

Marquette closed out the half on an 8-1 run led by Bigica and Ojulu, and held a 39-26 lead going into the break.

The Golden Eagles shot 36.8 percent (14-38) from the field and held a 30-18 edge on the boards in the frame. Bigica led all scorers with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the floor.

The Golden Eagles will return home for two games next week beginning Wednesday, Dec. 18 hosting Oral Roberts at noon CT before hosting Denver on Friday, Dec. 20.
