TOLEDO, Ohio - Behind a balanced scoring attack that featured four Golden Eagles scoring in double figures, the Marquette University women's basketball team earned a 69-60 win at Toledo on Saturday afternoon at Savage Arena.

Arlesia Morse led Marquette (9-5) with 14 points, while Gabi Minix added a career-high 13 points and Katie Young and Katherine Plouffeeach chipped in 11 points. The Golden Eagles shot 44.8 percent from the floor (26-of-58), including an impressive 61.5 percent (16-of-26) in the second half.

Courtney Ingersoll paced Toledo (7-5) with a game-high 19 points, but the Rockets were unable to handle Marquette's pressure and committed 19 turnovers. In turn, the Golden Eagles scored 24 points off those miscues.

The Golden Eagles went into half time trailing by one, 25-24. Marquette held its largest lead of the first half, six points, early in the first half after the Golden Eagles opened the game scoring on three of its first five possessions. For the remainder of the half, neither team owned more than a five-point lead.

Toledo opened the second frame with an 8-4 run to go ahead five points, 33-28 with 15:46 to play. Marquette tied the game, 33-33, thanks to Plouffe's 3-point play, but the Rockets responded with a 9-0 run to own a seven point advantage, 40-33, with 13:04 to play.

A pair of 3-pointers by Arlesia Morse and four consecutive points from Simmons gave MU its first lead of the second half, 45-44, with 10:05 to play. Simmons drove to the basket on MU's next possession to put Marquette up three, 47-44, with 9:42 to play.

 

 

Young scored the Golden Eagles' next nine points and Apiew Ojulu added a lay-up to give Marquette a commanding 12-point advantage, 46-58, with 6:07 left in the game. Ingersoll's fourth 3-pointer of the game capped MU's scoring run at 5:34 left to play, and the Golden Eagles held on to at least an eight-point lead as the clock ran down.

Marquette will resume BIG EAST Conference play at No. 14/13 Louisville, on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. CT.
