Jan. 2, 2017

NEW YORK Marquette University women's basketball sophomore Allazia Blockton was selected as BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

The league’s leading scorer continued to roll in road wins over Villanova and RV/- Georgetown last week, scoring 21 points in each contest while adding 5.5 boards and 4.0 assists. The Milwaukee native knocked down over 46 percent of her attempts from the field, including 67 percent from deep as Marquette started BIG EAST play 2-0 for the first time since 2006-07. The wins were the Golden Eagles fourth and fifth in a row, the best active streak in the BIG EAST, while their 11 wins on the year are also a conference high.

Marquette entered the week 42nd in the NCAA RPI and jumped to No. 21 following the wins. This is Blockton’s first Player of the Week certificate of the season and the third for a Golden Eagle along with Natisha Hiedeman and Erika Davenport.
